Most pressure washers operate between 1,500 and 3,000 PSI. Glass, especially older single-pane windows, can crack under that kind of force, particularly when the nozzle gets too close or the angle is wrong. Pressure washing windows with a standard high-pressure setup creates two specific risks that homeowners don’t always see coming.
The first is the glass itself. Thermal stress, existing micro-cracks, or simply a narrow tip aimed at a sharp angle can shatter a pane that looks perfectly fine from the outside.
The second risk is the seal. A window seal keeps moisture out of your wall cavity. Once it’s compromised by high-pressure water driven into the frame, you’re looking at drafts, water intrusion, and eventually mold — problems that don’t show up for months.
Frame material compounds the concern. Wood frames splinter under high pressure. Vinyl frames warp or craze. Aluminum frames dent. The damage from improper technique near window trim can quietly set up structural problems that are far more expensive than the wash itself.
